Hellllllo!
I'm not the best at talking about myself, but here you are on the "about" section and hoping to know about me! (Or so I assume)
I am a very proud Wisconsin native (Go Pack GO!) who had to leave because Killer whales just aren't found in Lake Michigan. My entire life has revolved around animals and wildlife, thus that simply translated over to photography after my Grandfather let me borrow his film camera. I was always wandering the northwoods of Wisconsin, having wildlife encounters that I wanted to capture and share. This is how I came to combine both worlds I love so much. Photography and the natural world.
I have a degree in Biology from UW- Stevens Point. In my past, I've worked at a zoo, volunteered at a Big cat rescue, worked as a raptor field biologist in Nevada, and also worked for 6 years at an animal shelter, later becoming a certified Humane officer. Currently I am a whale watch naturalist for Western Prince in Friday Harbor. I've also obtained my Captain's license with the intent to drive whale watch boats in the near future.
I've been living on San Juan Island in Washington state for 10 years now! I live in Orca country and feel very grateful that I get to see these amazing animals very frequently, which was a lifelong dream of mine. Never did I think this passion for Killer whales would change my life so completely. I now get to live in an extraordinary location with such amazing people who inspire me day in and out.
With my images, I hope to create a connection to the natural world so people will care more, pollute less, and cultivate and inspire action to play a part in taking care of this amazing planet we share.
Thank you so much for visiting and checking out my work.
Cheers,
Traci
